Start with a complete listing

A useful listing should help you understand exactly what is being offered before you contact the seller. Read the full name, price, condition, description, location and availability. Look through every image and check whether the photographs show the actual item or only a manufacturer image. For services, confirm what the starting price includes and what would attract an extra charge.

Ask questions that produce useful answers

Avoid beginning with only “available?” Ask for the information that would change your decision: the exact model, size, colour, condition, warranty, collection point, delivery fee and expected delivery time. If the item is used, ask what has been repaired or replaced and request a current photo or short video showing it working.

For a service, describe the outcome you need, your location, preferred date and any deadline. Ask the provider to state the scope, materials, number of revisions, completion time and total price in writing. Confirm identity and fulfilment
